Everton handed big injury blow ahead of Arsenal clash

Everton are expected to be without full-back Lucas Digne for their Premier League game against Arsenal due to injury.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, the defender has suffered a muscle strain, which is likely to see him sit out the game and be replaced by veteran full-back Leighton Baines at the Emirates Stadium.

The injury is not thought to be serious enough to keep the player out for long, with him likely to make a comeback for the Toffees' next game against Manchester United next week.

Digne has established himself as an important player at Goodison Park this season having played a part in all but one of Everton's Premier League games in 2019/20.

He has even worn the captains' armband on four occasions in the league this season.

Although his primary objective is to keep the ball out of the net, Digne has contributed at the other end of the pitch too, registering six assists and one goal in his 29 appearances this season.

While they will be missing Digne, Everton do have one major injury boost with midfielder Andre Gomes being deemed fit enough to make the match day squad after recovering from a broken leg against Tottenham back in November.

Everton currently sit one place and two points above Arsenal in the Premier League table.
