Everton handed away game at Lincoln in second round of Carabao Cup

Everton have been drawn against Lincoln City in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues will travel to Sincil Bank for the match at the end of this month.

Everton’s second round tie - and the rest of the fixtures - will take place on the week commencing August 26.

Marco Silva and his men will be hoping to do much better than last season, when Everton crashed out of the Carabao Cup on penalties at home to Southampton.

Danny Ings put the away side ahead at the break, before Theo Walcott drew the Blues level with five minutes to go.

But in the shootout, Richarlison fired over before Matt Targett’s miss put the scores back level - but Everton handed the initiative straight back to their visitors when Walcott’s spot-kick was saved.

That meant Cedric Soares had the chance to seal Southampton’s progression to round four, and he confidently obliged by sending Maarten Stekelenburg the wrong way from 12 yards.

The draw for tonight's Carabao Cup was split, meaning that Everton could only have faced a slightly limited selection of teams.

The Blues were one of 13 Premier League sides in the second round draw - and they were included in the Northern section, which accounts for the regionalised nature of the ties at this stage.

Tonight's draw took place live on Sky Sports immediately after the first round ties were concluded.
