Everton goalkeeper's Fantasy Football picks show eye for Toffees talent

It seems Asmir Begovic was an Everton admirer long before he joined the Blues this summer.

The new goalkeeper is a big Fantasy Football fan and during his time with Chelsea, had not one, not two but three Everton players in his line-up.

Begovic has been an avid player of the online Premier League game and in a 2016 interview with Transworld Sport, a quick look at his team showed a trio of Toffees.

During the 2015-16 campaign, what would be Roberto Martinez’s final season at Goodison Park, Begovic had current captain Seamus Coleman in defence, Ross Barkley in midfield and striker Romelu Lukaku who returned to England this week to rejoin Chelsea.

While the Blues finished eleventh, Begovic would have seen a decent return.

Barkley appeared in every Premier League fixture and scored eight goals, Romelu Lukaku missed just one game and netted 18 times while Coleman made 28 appearances and also got on the scoresheet once.

Speaking to Trans World Sport in April 2016, Begovic revealed: "I still play fantasy football, I enjoy playing it because it is a lot of fun with my friends. We make leagues and there is a lot of banter and fun flying around which is great fun to be part of.

"I'm a huge football fan myself, I play the sport obviously and do it as a profession but I follow it as a fan just as much as I love playing it.

"I have people requesting Fantasy points, 'you have to get me a cleans sheet this week'. You get it non-stop on social media and everything. It's all good fun. It's more interaction with fans and people who love football and it's what makes this game so great."

Picking Riyad Mahrez as the Algeria international shined to help Leicester win a shock Premier League title suggests Begovic has a good eye for talent.

As Marcel Brands and Rafa Benitez scour the globe for players to bolster the Blues squad this summer, it seems they could do worse than ask their deputy goalkeeper for input.
