Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford speaks out about England penalty heroics and reveals key to technique

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford revealed the key to his penalty heroics after starring for England once again.

The Blues stopper scored from the spot and made a vital save to secure victory against Switzerland in the

Pickford slammed a left-footed penalty confidently into the corner before saving from Josip Drmic to seal the win.

And when quizzed on his technique after the game, the Toffees keeper said: "I'm not telling anyone anything!

"No, it's all about routine I would say.

"If you watch the top penalty takers, watch Harry Kane, he's got his own routine.

"You've got to create your own routine to make sure everything is done to perfection."

Pickford admitted there were a few nerves when he stepped up to take the fifth penalty - but he had every reason to be confident.

The Everton man said: "We practice them consistently when there's a major competition.

"When I pick my spot, I always seem to be able to get a goal.

"But I've never taken one in a real game so I was a bit nervous!"

Asked if he was one of the best penalty takers in the England squad, Pickford pointed to substitutions that boss Gareth Southgate had already made as possible evidence to the contrary.

He said: "I don't know...we've took [off] the likes of Harry Kane and a couple of other lads who maybe would have taken a penalty.

"So I don't know where I was in the pecking order.

"But that's what you practice for. You practice all the time to make sure you make it easy on the day."
