Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford outlines aim to help Harry Kane

Jordan Pickford looks set to continue as England number one as they take on Germany on Tuesday in the Round of 16.

After Dean Henderson pulled out of the squad through injury, he was replaced by Aaron Ramsdale who joined Sam Johnstone to make up the goalkeeping trio in the camp.

With just two goals scored - both by Raheem Sterling for England, Pickford ensured none were conceded throughout the Three Lions' opening three Euro 2020 games.

With top shot-stoppers like Gianluigi Donnarumma, Manuel Neuer and Thibaut Courtois all competing at the tournament, only Donnarumma managed the same feat as 27-year-old.

Two wins and one draw saw Gareth Southgate's side progress into the next stage of the competition as group winners which set up the clash with the Germans after they were forced to dramatically fight back to earn a draw with Hungary, which saw them overtake Portugal to finish as runners-up.

Many class Pickford as one of the stars of the tournament for England so far with Kalvin Phillips and Sterling uttered under the same breath.

A crucial save against Scotland to deny Stephen O'Donnell ensured that they left Wembley with a point as the Scots grew into the game with England looking off the boil.

As he embarks on his 35th England cap, the goal is still the same. In fact, the Blues goalkeeper isn't content with just keeping the ball out of his own net, he wants to do everything to even help strikers like Harry Kane have the best opportunity to put chances away.

“For me, it’s about continuing to perform for the nation game in, game out, every time I get called upon,” Pickford said.

“I want to be the best version of myself I can be to give us the best opportunity to win football matches.

“That means making saves, keeping clean sheets and giving that chance for the strikers to go and score the goals.

“We knew if we finished top, we would be coming up against the second-placed team in their group," the 27-year-old said.

“We know how hard their group was and their game against Hungary was a good one to watch.

“Germany are a top side. We know the quality they have.

“It’s about us being prepared to be the best we can be on that day.”
