Everton fans to pay tribute to 12 year old killed on railway tracks

Everton fans are being urged to show their support for tragic 12-year-old fan James Myers at next Sunday's home game against Tottenham.

James was electrocuted and killed after he clambered onto the high voltage train lines near Bedford Road in Bootle earlier this month.

Now a social media campaign has been organised to call for a minute's applause on the 12th minute of the Tottenham game at Goodison Park.

Since the original post went up, it has been re-tweeted and liked thousands of times.

James's uncle, Lee Myers, said: "The club has been very supportive to the family."

Tributes have poured in for James since his death, with a large floral shrine at the spot where he climbed onto the track , above a subway close to Kings Road, with his friends among those leaving poignant messages.

Chris Whelan, James's head teacher at Newfield School in Thornton, described him as a "lovely kid" who "always had a smile on his face" and was full of "charm and enthusiasm."

Around 100 mourners turned out for a vigil to the boy days after the tragedy, and a fundraising page set up to help the family has so far raised £1,750.

James managed to get on the Northern Line tracks which were isolated as soon as rail bosses were informed that a young boy had been seen on the railway line.

Three separate investigations are now ongoing into the tragedy.

They are being led by British Transport Police, Network Rail and the Office for Rail and Road who are considering whether to prosecute over health and safety breaches.

The GoFundMe page set up for James's family can be found here .
