Everton fans spend half the match waiting for the ball to be in play

Everton fans spend almost half the match waiting for the ball to be in play, new statistics have revealed.

The ball has been in play for just 50.5% of the time during the average Toffees league game this season, according to data from the CIES Football Observatory.

That works out at just over 45 minutes out of a 90 minute match, below the league average of 55.0% and is the joint worst record in the league alongside Aston Villa.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have the best record in the division for keeping the ball in play.

The ball has been in play 60.3% of the time in the average City game this season.

Chelsea have the next best record (57.9%) followed by Tottenham (57.3%), Newcastle (57.2%) and Watford (57.2%).
