Everton fans send message to Graeme Souness after comments on Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal

Everton supporters have questioned Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness for insisting that Everton's opening goal during their clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon should have been ruled out for dangerous play.

The Toffees got off to the dream start in North London, taking the lead inside the very first minute when Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been in such fine form of late, shrugged off the attentions of Gunners centre-back David Luiz and acrobatically fired the ball out of the reach of Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

It was the perfect start for Carlo Ancelotti's side and for Calvert-Lewin, who showed tremendous athleticism to hook the ball towards goal.

However, Souness believes that the goal ought to have been ruled out for a perceived high boot from Calvert Lewin.

Addressing the situation at half time, Souness told Sky Sports: "I think there is an element for that, although it is spectacular, to be dangerous play."

Unsurprisingly, Souness' comments did not go down too well with the Everton fans on social media, with plenty of them baffled, to say the least, by the former Liverpool man's opinion.

Here is a sample of what some Toffees fans have had to say on Twitter:

Everton went on to lose an end-to-end encounter 3-2.

The Blues pushed late on for an equaliser but it did not come, as earlier defence sloppiness proved costly.

But the return of Andre Gomes, who sparkled in a second-half cameo from the bench, was a positive on the day despite a frustrating defeat.
