Everton fans send clear Marcel Brands message after Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid departure

Everton fans have been reacting online following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure from the club.

The Blues confirmed in a statement released shortly after 6pm on Tuesday evening that Ancelotti had left the club to join Real Madrid.

Ancelotti has signed a three-year contract with the La Liga giants and returns to the Bernabeu six-years after leaving.

In a statement released by the club, the Blues thanked the three-time Champions League winner for his time at the club which began in December 2019.

Everton have also confirmed that they will begin the search for Ancelotti's successor "immediately" as they look to prepare for the new season which starts in August.

And below is how fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter.

@nsno_83 said: “Loved the fella, embraced the club and the city and gave us some great moments. Not going to lie though, some of those results after Christmas were terrifying.”

@JLTPearson said: “This is obviously gutting but we have to step up now and show our ambition by appointing another top tier manager. Time for Brands to show what he’s about. We can’t be derailed by this. As always, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.”

@apstubbings added: “Great manager, don't begrudge him a move to Real...but the club have GOT to get this next appointment right.

“Everton need to find their own identity again, not try to be something they aren't. They can be successful but it's still a hell of a job for someone to take on.”

@TomFox87 wrote: Please @Everton can we have a sensible, yet ambitious, appointment for a change. No Moshiri hubris or Kenwright small-time parochialism. Let Brands pick the manager otherwise get rid of him as he clearly isn't doing the job you brought him in for #EFC.”

@daviddownie17 wrote: “Rate his job so far or not, now is the time for Marcel Brands to take full control of this. His remit is to run the footballing side of the club and he’s now also on the board. If Everton want a Director of Football model, time to do it properly.”

Speaking on his Everton exit, Ancelotti said: “I would like to thank the Board of Directors, the players, and the Evertonians for the tremendous support they have all given me during my time at the Club.

“I have complete respect for everyone associated with Everton and hope they can achieve the exciting opportunities they have in front of them.

“While I have enjoyed being at Everton I have been presented with an unexpected opportunity which I believe is the right move for me and my family at this time.”
