Everton fans in disbelief after Graeme Souness' bizarre Richarlison comment during Man Utd game

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness has delivered a surprising take on Everton ’s opening goal against Manchester United , describing Richarlison’s strike as 'dangerous play'.

The Brazilian opened the scoring after just 13 minutes at Goodison Park, latching onto Dominic Calvert Lewin’s header to acrobatically turn the ball home.

Glyfi Sigurdsson doubled the Toffees lead 15 minutes later, giving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men a mountain to climb.

Everton’s first strike was reminiscent of Phil Jagielka’s header against Arsenal two weeks ago, except this time it was Richarlison’s over-head kick that made the difference.

However, with Diogo Dalot in close proximity to Richarlison and unable to challenge the ball, Souness believes that the goal should have been ruled out by referee Paul Tierney for a high foot.

Speaking at half-time on Sky Sports, Souness said: "It was a simple long throw-in, Manchester United have got unlucky there.

"I think that is dangerous play with his foot high up there.”

Lead anchor David Jones chipped in as the debate raged on, claiming: "We have been told it's not dangerous play. That's one referee's opinion.”

As expected, Souness’ take has angered the Everton fan base, who took to social media to blast the former Reds captain.
