Everton fans have their say on Frank Lampard appointment as manager

Frank Lampard is the right man to take over the reins at Everton, according to supporters online.

Premier League and Champions League winner Lampard, 43, was finally announced as the new Blues boss on Monday after majority owner Farhad Moshiri conducted interviews with several candidates, following the sacking of Rafa Benitez.

Former Chelsea hero Lampard will be tasked with reversing the Merseyside club's fortunes, driving them up the Premier League table and away from the relegation trap door.

The Echo asked supporters for their views in an online survey and after 3,674 Blues responded, the results are pretty clear.

A whopping 90.3% of respondents said that they were pleased that Everton have appointed Frank Lampard, with only 9.7% not so impressed.

With the Blues currently only four points above the drop zone, swerving a relegation dogfight is an absolute priority for Lampard.

Overall, 84.4% of surveyed fans believe that he is experienced enough to guide Everton away from a relegation battle, while 15.6% disagree and think he will have his work cut out.

Midfielders Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli arrived at Goodison Park just before the January transfer window closed and that is good news as far Evertonians are concerned.

When asked what should be Lampard's priority in the transfer market, 34.7% said bolstering midfield options, while 29.7% said selling dead wood was the most important move.

Improving a leaky defence was preferred by 27.7% of respondents, while only 7.9% were seeking an improvement in attacking options as a top priority.

A number of high profiles names were in the mix for the Goodison job, with Fabio Cannavaro, Vitor Periara and Duncan Ferguson all interviewed, but the Goodison faithful are confident that the eventual outcome was the strongest on offer.

A substantial 80.6% of survey respondents consider Frank Lampard to be the best available manager for Everton, with only 19.4% believing that there were stronger candidates on offer.

With Lampard seemingly having the majority backing of Evertonians - an advantage seemingly not enjoyed by his predecessor - the stage is set for the Romford-born star to reignite his managerial career and in doing so, Everton's fortunes.
