Everton fan Joe Anderson reveals what happened when he met Jurgen Klopp after Champions League win

Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson has revealed what he said to Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool's Champion's League victory.

The Liverpool team met mayor Anderson when they got back from Madrid last Sunday before their victory parade around the city .

And this morning the mayor, an Everton fan, told cabinet members he did manage to congratulate the Reds manager - but did joke with him about Liverpool's future success.

He said: "I did shake hands with Klopp when the team came back from Madrid.

"But I told him, 'if you keep on like this and keep on winning you won't be getting another parade next year'.

"In all seriousness though the parade was a huge success for this city - I've said before and I would repeat now that you can not pay for that kind of publicity."

Mayor Anderson also repeated his praise of city council staff who organised and carried out the parade.

He said: "We do need to make it very very clear to our staff that without we could not have done this."

An estimated 750,000 people came out to celebrate the Reds' triumph , bringing vast swathes of the city to a halt as supporters flooded the streets around the bus's route.

Cabinet member for street scenes James Noakes said that some street team workers who had been with the council for 30 years said the clean up was the most challenging they had ever done in those three decades.

The scale of the celebrations meant workers faced a mammoth task getting the streets back to normal after 36 hours of celebrations.
