Everton fan gets tattoo of James Rodriguez after handing Colombian bottle of wine

Everton supporter Ben Hughes has likely had more quiet weeks following his beloved Toffees up and down the country.

And although the season ticket holder was forced to watch Carlo Ancelotti's newly-assembled squad from outside of Goodison Park, he still managed to make headlines.

The 28-year-old from North Wales, went viral across social media after he was recorded handing Everton superstar James Rodriguez a bottle of wine after their 5-2 demolition of West Brom.

Ben had made the trip to Merseyside to watch the match with friends in a nearby pub, but before he made the trip back home he encountered the former Real Madrid star being driven away from the stadium.

He told the Liverpool ECHO: “I was in the offy and I bought myself some beers and a bottle of wine for the missus.

“As we came out my mate had spotted him and was taking a selfie.

“I thought I wasn’t going to part with my beers so I gave him my missus' Echo Falls. She wasn’t happy but when I explained to her she was all right about it.”

Rodriguez was seen smiling to the cameras, before placing the bottle of Echo Falls in the back seat of the car.

But after this first meeting, Ben has gone one step further, commemorating meeting the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner with a tattoo.

He explained to the ECHO that he spent three hours getting the tattoo completed, including a pun on the infamous James Bond headline, as well as incorporating the gift he got the midfield star.

Asked why Ben has become so enamoured with Rodriguez, who has inspired Ancelotti's men to two wins on the spin, he replied: “The way he played on Saturday he just changes our team completely.

“He makes everybody happy,” adding: “He can run a match even just walking with the ball. We’re going to have a good season with him - top four hopefully and the FA cup.”
