Everton face fight to keep hold of Bassala Sambou as Blues sort out futures of other youngsters

Everton are fighting to keep hold of striker Bassala Sambou with clubs chasing the striker's signature.

But the Blues are set to confirm the futures of other Academy players this week.

Sambou is out of contract this summer and said to have turned down the offer of a new two-year deal at Goodison.

The 21-year-old wants to play first-team football next season and is attracting interest from Championship and League One clubs.

Sambou, a two-time Premier League 2 title winner with Everton's under-23s, has also been monitored by Swedish outfit Ostersunds.

Everton are due to publish their retained list on Friday where the contract situation of some of Sambou's team-mates will be clarified.

Defender Con Ouzounidis is understood to have been handed a new deal with u-18s winger Korede Adedoyin also believed to have agreed on fresh terms.

Harry Charsley, another out of contract this summer, is expected to stay with Everton next season and continue his rehabilitation from injury which saw him miss a big chunk of the u-23s' title run-in.

A permanent move away from Goodison, however, could still materialise in January.

It is believed that Everton will confirm that misfit striker Boris Mathis and goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt are due to be released following the end of their contracts later this month.

Discussions over a new deal for young forward Manasse Mampala remain on-going, the ECHO understands.
