Everton expect 'short' pre-season for Carlo Ancelotti after US plans change

Carlo Ancelotti is unconcerned by Everton not being able to go through a "proper" pre-season this summer.

The Blues finish the season on July 26 with the start of the 2020-21 campaign pencilled in for seven weeks later.

Ancelotti will be preparing for his first full campaign in charge at Goodison and would have relished the chance to spend quality time on the training pitch with his squad.

Everton were believed to be looking at spending part of the build-up to the new season in America but the coronavirus crisis has forced clubs to re-think their preparations.

It is unclear how much time off the players will have following the game with Bournemouth next week, and the begin of training, but Ancelotti time readying the squad will be "short".

Yet, the Everton manager feels the time he's spent with the players in his first seventh months in charge have allowed him to learn plenty about each of them.

“It will be important," he said of pre-season.

"All pre-seasons are important. We have to consider that we are not going to have a proper pre-season because I think time will be short but it doesn't matter as most of the players as these six months was a good experience for them and for me to know them better."

Ancelotti deployed a 4-4-2 system for the majority of Everton's game before the suspension but since the re-start has tested his players with different formations.

"My best scenario will be to have a team with not only one identity, it will be important also in the future to have a team that can show different identities in the same game," he said.

"This could be the best scenario and this is what I am going to work on for the future, to have not only one identity but to have different identities in the same game."
