Everton evening headlines: Carlo Ancelotti contact decision, Premier League plans, transfer boost

Ancelotti limiting contact with first-team players

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he is limiting the number of conversations he has been having with his players during lockdown.

Ancelotti also revealed that his backroom staff are in constant communication with him throughout this period away from the training ground.

The Everton squad has now been divided into groups of four and allocated a member of staff who is taking them through online training sessions and video analysis.

Ancelotti says "I know they are working" but is keeping direct contact with many of the players to a minimum.

“I don’t speak a lot with the players, I have individual chats with some but not all of them,” he said.

“I want to leave them to be free at this moment.”

Premier League season plans

Premier League clubs have today outlined 'possible scheduling models' that could help the current campaign come to its conclusion.

While clubs remain focused on the safety of players, staff and supporters, all 20 top-flight sides met via video call today and reinforced their desire to finish the 2019/20 season.

No date has yet been confirmed for a resumption of play but the reaffirmation from clubs looks to be a step in the right direction to finish this season when the time is right.

The statement said: "Today's shareholders' meeting provided an opportunity to discuss possible scheduling models.

"It remains our objective to complete the 2019/20 season but at this stage all dates are tentative while the impact of COVID-19 develops.

"In response to the pandemic, the Premier League, our clubs and players have provided vital support for communities and the NHS and will continue to do so after matches recommence.

"We are acutely aware of the distress COVID-19 is causing and our thoughts are with all those directly affected by the pandemic.”

Gabriel transfer boost

Everton target Gabriel is reportedly on track to join a 'really big club'.

Lille chief Gerard Lopez has revealed that the central defender is set to leave the French club amid speculation that Everton have progressed towards a deal for the defender.

Yesterday’s report in the Guardian suggested that Everton were set to sign the defender from Lille in a £30m move, yet Lopez’s remarks will also excite Blues fans.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lopez said: "It's true that he would like to go and try something else out. We haven't taken that decision yet, but he's received a number of offers.

"I feel he's closer to one club than others, but nothing's done yet so we'll see.”
