Everton evening headlines as Seamus Coleman makes touching charity donation and record-breaking day remembered

Blues skipper Coleman makes huge charity donation

Everton captain Seamus Coleman has made a donation of €15,000 towards a young boy’s hopes of life-saving treatment.

The parents of Dan Donoher, who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Scoliosis, set up a gofundme page with the target of raising €2m for treatment in America.

Coleman’s gesture was well-received with the DoItForDan201 twitter page wrote: "Thank you so much to @Everton and @FAIreland legend @seamiecoleman23 This means so much to Dan and his parents and brings us even closer to our goal!"

This comes after the Republic of Ireland star had already made a huge donation for frontline health workers during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Vaughan’s record-breaking debut goal remembered

On this day 15 years ago, history was made.

On April 10 2005, the Toffees were running riot against a hapless Crystal Palace, leading 3-0 when 16-year-old striker James Vaughan was brought on for his first appearance.

It would turn out to be a dream debut as, with three minutes to go, Vaughan slid in to score Everton’s fourth, breaking the record for the youngest ever Premier League goalscorer in the process.

"It was an incredible feeling” the former Blue said.
“Just to get on the pitch was a dream come true so for it to go that way was incredible."
More on that unforgettable day here.

Which Everton manager said it?

"I was not able to run, if I run, I am dead,"

"If he likes to play football, then he needs to leave Everton."

“I put that money into that player but if that player doesn't deliver [people will say]: 'Look at that player, look at the money he's wasted on him, oh he's bought him, he's rubbish, what a waste of money'.”

If you’re missing football, keep yourself occupied with the Echo’s quiz on quotes from different Blues managers down the years.
