Everton evening headlines as Jordan Pickford gets backing and James Rodriguez back in contention

Here are the Everton evening headlines for Friday, November 6.

Ancelotti backs Pickford ahead of United clash

Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that Jordan Pickford has his full backing ahead of Saturday’s game against Manchester United.

The England international was dropped as Everton fell to defeat at Newcastle United last time out, replaced in the starting XI by Robin Olsen.

Ancelotti claimed before that game that Pickford would return for the United clash, and he has reiterated that in the buildup to the match.

“I have no message. I talk to him every day this week, we laughed, we were together,” said the Everton boss.

“There's no message for him, he knows what to do tomorrow. He starts, yes he starts, no doubt. His mentality is good, I don't want to change it.

“He's a good guy, a funny guy. I don't want to change his mentality or his character. I think sometimes he made mistakes because he thought too much.”

Rodriguez fit to play against United

James Rodriguez will be back in Everton’s team for Saturday’s game against Manchester United.

The Colombia international, who has been superb since arriving from Real Madrid, missed out against Newcastle with what the club described as a “small injury”.

But manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed he is back in contention ahead of this weekend’s fixture.

“Yes we have practically all the squad available,” Ancelotti said.

“He [Rodriguez] said that he's 100%. I have some doubt that he's 100% but it doesn't matter for me!”

Everton have opportunity to heap more pressure on United

Everton welcome Manchester United to Goodison Park tomorrow looking to add to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s woes.

United fell to a worrying 2-1 defeat at Istanbul Baseksehir on Wednesday night, just a few days after a 1-0 loss against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

And Everton, given their strong start to the season, could be considered favourites when they host Solskjaer’s side on Saturday.

They could also be in a good position to take advantage of the pressure on United, who are increasingly desperate for points in the Premier League.
