Everton evening headlines as James Rodriguez reacts to winning Blues debut

Here are the Everton evening headlines for Monday September 14.

Rodriguez gives verdict on first Everton appearance

James Rodriguez has taken to social media to reflect on his debut in an Everton shirt.

The Colombia international, signed from Real Madrid this summer, impressed as the Toffees earned an opening day victory against Tottenham.

And he was clearly pleased with the day’s work.

“Great performance from the team,” Rodriguez wrote on social media. “[V]ery happy for my first game as a Toffee. #COYB.”

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for the debutant, adding: “He did four days of training and his performance was outstanding. This is what he can do on the pitch.”

Everton target set to join Bundesliga club

Everton have missed out on Koln striker Jhon Cordoba, according to a report from Kicker - via HITC .

The Colombian, out of contract in the summer, is now set to remain in Germany and join Hertha Berlin.

Cordoba was believed to be a target for both Everton and Wolves having hit 36 goals over three seasons at Koln.

But the Toffees will have to do without the 27-year-old, who will move to Hertha in a deal worth a reported £14million.

Calvert-Lewin goal delights Ferguson

Everton fans may have missed Duncan Ferguson’s enthusiastic celebrations when Dominic Calvert-Lewin powered home a header to give his side victory at Spurs on Sunday.

The assistant manager was visibly delighted to see a young striker he has no doubt taken under his wing score such a goal.

Domineering headers were Ferguson’s trademark as a player, and Calvert-Lewin met Lucas Digne’s cross with the kind of authority reminiscent of the ex-Toffees forward.

That was the icing on the cake in what was an impressive tactical display from Ancelotti’s side.

The movement of Rodriguez and Richarlison in wide areas proved particularly effective as Everton dictated the tempo of the game and controlled possession throughout.
