Everton evening headlines as Gabriel set to make transfer decision next week

Here are your evening Everton headlines for Saturday August 15.

Everton target handed transfer advice

Everton transfer target Gabriel Magalhaes will leave Lille this summer and come to a decision on his future destination by next week.

That is according to Lille president Gerard Lopez who has spoken about the 22-year-old’s next destination.

He told the BBC’s World Service how the central defender will come to a decision as early as next week ahead of a proposed move away from Ligue 1.

Lopez said : “The way we work is very simple. We explain to him and his environment, his agent, what we are looking for, and once we get those offers the choice is his, like we did with Nico [Pepe] and Victor [Oshimen].

"We are there now, so we told him: 'Eventually you have to make a decision but we're not pressing you.' I think he will make it this week, or next week at the latest. He is leaving, we've given the OK for that.

"There's a lot of competition. He's a young player so he's got to make sure he makes the right decision. We help him out a little bit so we tell him: 'We think this might be the right manager or club for you.'”

Schalke midfielder linked with Goodison Park move

Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie is reportedly on Everton’s radar in this summer’s transfer window.

The 21-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs around Europe but the Blues are believed to be in the running , according to Bild.

McKennie had been subject to serious interest from Hertha Berlin but a breakdown in negotiations between the two sides prevented a deal from materialising.

German outlet Bild also reports that the USA international would be more open to a move to the Premier League which could boost Everton’s hopes of making a deal happen.

Ancelotti and Brands take stock on under-23s

Carlo Ancelotti and Marcel Brands kept a close eye on the development of several under-23s earlier today.

The Everton boss and sporting director both attended the behind closed doors game at Finch Farm which saw them lose 2-1 to Southport .

First-team coach Duncan Ferguson was also in attendance alongside Ancelotti and Brands as Ellis Simms scored the Blues’ only goal of the game.

Given the rapid development of Jarrard Branthwaite and Anthony Gordon towards the end of last season, Everton could yet again be looking at promoting under-23s players to the first team ahead of the new campaign.
