Here are your Everton evening headlines for Monday, October 19.
Pickford will face no punishment for van Dijk challenge
Jordan Pickford will face no retrospective action for his tackle that saw Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk suffer an ACL injury.
The Everton goalkeeper forced van Dijk off after just 11 minutes of the Merseyside derby after ploughing into Dutchman and getting nowhere near the ball. Scans have since revealed van Dijk will spend a lengthy period on the sidelines.
It was speculated Pickford could be handed a retrospective punishment, but The FA has clarified they will only hand out retrospective punishments for incidents not seen by any officials, on the pitch or at Stockley Park.
Pickford’s tackle was seen by the officials, but the VAR decided the Everton number one couldn’t be sent off due to the incident occurring after an offside call had been made.
Ancelotti’s former assistant compares Everton impact to PSG arrival
Paul Clement has compared the impact Carlo Ancelotti has made at Everton to the one he had at Paris Saint-Germain.
Clement worked as Ancelotti’s assistant at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and PSG and having seen the Italian work first-hand the 48-year-old, currently in charge of Cercle Brugge, has provided some insight.
“It's like when he went to PSG,” Clement told The Times . “There were bigger, better opportunities but it was exciting.
“It was good for PSG that someone of his profile could come and attract Thiago Silva, Zlatan [Ibrahimovic], Thiago Motta. Those players come because they have a coach of that level. You’ve seen that at Everton already. The signing of James Rodriguez doesn’t happen if Carlo is not there.”
Allan explains why Everton will improve
Everton midfielder Allan has explained the difference between the Premier League and Serie A, and has explained why the Blues will improve after their Merseyside derby test against Liverpool.
The point against Liverpool kept Everton top of the Premier League table and Allan, who arrived from Napoli in the summer transfer window, has hinted Carlo Ancelotti’s side will only continue to get better.
“The Premier League is more intense, you have less time to think. You need to be ready at all times,” the Brazilian explained to Everton’s official site . “I have been here for just over a month and I’ve been working every day in training on various aspects.
“I think, moving forward, we will be completely in sync with each other and be able to get the best out of each other as a team.”
