Everton evening headlines as Carlo Ancelotti reveals Andre Gomes injury and makes Ronaldo comparison

Here are your Everton evening headlines for Tuesday, November 3.

Everton to assess Gomes after ‘little problem’

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti says the club will continue to monitor the fitness of Andre Gomes ahead of Saturday’s league game with Manchester United.

Gomes picked up a knock during Sunday’s defeat by Newcastle United before being replaced by Bernard.

“Andre had a little problem on his knee but it was nothing special, just a knock,” said Ancelotti.

Gomes is the latest injury concern for Ancelotti with James Rodriguez, Seamus Coleman and Ben Godfrey all having missed the Newcastle game.

Calvert-Lewin says Everton have let their standards slip

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has called on his teammates to improve after admitting that the Blues have allowed their early-season form to evaporate.

The Blues have picked up just one point from their last three games after starting the campaign with four wins on the bounce, which has seen them slip to fourth in the table.

And Calvert-Lewin, who has eight goals to his name already in the league this term, says their improvement will start on Saturday against Manchester United.

"Fallen below the standards we set ourselves in the last couple of weeks," he wrote on Twitter.

"Got to be better. Starts Saturday."

Ancelotti likens Rodriguez to Brazilian legend Ronaldo

Blues boss Ancelotti has compared Rodriguez to legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo following the Colombian’s impressive start to life in the Premier League.

Rodriguez has three goals and three assists in six games this season and his absence was sorely felt during the defeat by Newcastle.

And Ancelotti h as compared the former Real Madrid playmaker to Ronaldo for his ability to produce on a consistent basis without exerting himself too much.

“When I was at Milan, we brought in Ronaldo,” Ancelotti told France Football via Sport Witness.

“At his arrival, he weighed 100kg. Before the first game, I told him: ‘You know I can’t play you. You need to lose weight’.

“He replied ‘What do you want me to do on the pitch? Score or run? If it’s to run, put me on the bench, if it’s to score, play me!’.

“I played him. He didn’t run, but he scored two goals. For James, it’s the same thing.”
