Everton evening headlines as Bernard responds to talk of Roma move plus player wage cuts latest

Here are your Everton evening headlines for Saturday, April 4.

Everton's furlough stance

Everton have no immediate plans to follow some Premier League clubs into furloughing non-playing members of staff.

The club are continuing to review their financial situation and the status of their non-playing staff, but are not yet thought to be considering utilising the government scheme.

Just last week, the Blues confirmed that they will pay all matchday and non-matchday casual workers, despite the suspension of Premier League games.

Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Norwich City and Liverpool have all announced plans in the past week to place staff on furlough leave.

Bernard responds to talk of Roma move

Everton winger Bernard has dismissed reports claiming he could move to Roma this summer.

Reports have emerged over the last few days claiming that the Blues were in talks with the Italian side over a transfer in the upcoming window.

But the 27-year-old has responded to the rumours in a bid to quash talk he could leave Goodison.

“This is a lie,” the Brazilian international wrote on Instagram.

Player wage cuts latest

An agreement on player wage cuts in the Premier League remains some way off following an emergency meeting.

And, tonight, the Professional Footballers' Association have released a statement where they question the proposed 30% pay cut but stress that the players they represent are "committed" to finding a way to help clubs during the coronavirus.

The PFA say that a 30% pay cut over a 12 month period would equate to a £500m saving but in addressing Health Secretary Matt Hancock's comments that Premier League players should 'play their part' they have questioned whether the loss in tax on those earnings means it is the best course of action.

A meeting took place this afternoon between the Premier League, PFA and all 20 captains of the top flight clubs but hopes that a deal would have been thrashed out have not been met.
