Everton evening headlines as Alisher Usmanov ties strengthened in expanded Megafon deal

Good evening, Everton fans. Here are your evening headlines for Wednesday, October 28.

Everton expand commercial deal with MegaFon

Everton have expanded their commercial agreement with Megafon, who are now the main sponsor of the women's team.

They will wear the newly-branded MegaFon-sponsored shirts for the first time in Sunday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City.

The move strengthens the ties with MegaFon's move into the women's game as well as those between Everton and Alisher Usmanov.

Usmanov is the majority shareholder of MegaFon and owns a controlling stake - and is the founder - of USM, the holdings company of which the Russian telecommunications brand is part of.

Ivan Streshinsky and Blues owner Farhad Moshiri are also on the board.

MegaFon chief executive outlines the exciting future behind MegaFon deal

Megafon chief executive Gevork Vermishyan has given a statement after the commercial deal announcement.

He outlined the commitment to backing the Blues women’s team after their progress in 2020, reaching Wembley after beating London Bees, Bristol City, Chelsea and Birmingham City.

“We are delighted to further expand our agreement with Everton in what is a very exciting time for Everton Women,” said Vermishyan.

“This partnership allows us to support the women’s game in England and be part of a Club with huge ambition and an international reach playing in the now globally recognised WSL.

“We wish the Club the very best of luck for the Women’s FA Cup Final this weekend and the rest of the 2020/21 season, as we look forward to building on our strong relationship with Everton, Everton Women and their international fanbase.”

Jean-Philippe Gbamin steps up injury comeback

Ivorian defensive midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin will continue his rehabilitation at a Paris training base.

The 25-year-old only made two appearances for Everton last season after arriving for a reported £25m fee from Mainz last summer.

He’s yet to appear under Carlo Ancelotti after his season was curtailed early by a serious thigh injury.

The club say that Gbamin could return in November or December, and is currently working on his comeback at a suburb in the French capital.

It’s hoped that he’ll return to train with his Blues team-mates at Finch Farm in the coming weeks.
