Everton escape FIFA punishment after Premier League players banned

A number of Premier League clubs have been punished by FIFA for failing to release players for international matches over the last week.

Clubs across the country took a collective stance that they would not allow players to represent their nation this international break if fixtures were taking place in red-list countries.

The Brazilian FA have now asked FIFA to invoke their five-day rule and prevent clubs from fielding players why did not report for international duty.

Everton, though, have escaped punishment and Richarlison will be available for the game against Burnley on Monday, despite the 24-year-old being one of the players called up to the Brazil squad.

This is a result of Everton's good relations with the Brazilian FA and the fact Richarlison represented his nation in both the Copa America and Tokyo 2020 Olympics this summer.

The forward won Olympic gold with Brazil last month and returned in time for the first game of the Premier League campaign.

Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Leeds have all been hit with sanctions by FIFA which will affect this weekend's fixtures.

FIFA decided not to extend its temporary release exception for those required to quarantine on their return from international duty and no exemption was granted by the UK government due to ongoing public health concerns.
