Everton deserve 'credit' for win over Lincoln says boss who praises Marco Silva's team selection

Everton boss Marco Silva showed Lincoln City "respect" by naming a strong squad for last night's Carabao Cup tie, the Lincoln City boss says.

And Danny Cowley also believes the Blues "played right at the top of their game" in the 4-2 win that sealed a third round tie with Sheffield Wednesday.

Lincoln took a shock lead at Sincil Bank after 21 seconds before Lucas Digne's expert free-kick levelled the tie.

A Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty after the break put Silva's side ahead but a stunning volley from Bruno Andrade made it 2-2 with 20 minutes go.

Yet Everton rallied late on with goals from Alex Iwobi and Richarlison sending them through and Cowley says Silva and his players deserve "credit".

“You have to respect Everton – they’re a top Premier League team with some world-class players,” he said.

“We played them in the FA Cup last season and, off the back of that, they showed us respect by bringing the squad they did.

“Credit to them because I thought they played right at the top of their game.

“It was a great game with some really good goals and a great advert for the Carabao Cup.”
