Everton dealing with triple question mark ahead of Elland Road opener against Leeds United

Everton midfielder James Rodriguez is unsure of what his future holds on Merseyside with their clash with Leeds United just two weeks away in one of three question marks the Toffees face ahead of the clash.

Rodriguez only arrived at Goodison Park 12 months ago but is already considering a departure after former boss Carlo Ancelotti left the club for Real Madrid.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Colombian playmaker has been told he is free to leave as new manager Rafael Benitez looks to free up some of Rodriguez’s £200,000 a week wages.

His former club Porto and Champions League outfit Sevilla are two of the clubs reportedly keen on securing the 30-year-old’s signature but despite his clamour for a move away, he has been taking part in Everton’s pre-season schedule as normal.

Speaking to his Twitch channel, Rodriguez likened his situation to that of Sergio Aguero, who is reportedly already seeking a move away from Barcelona following the departure of Lionel Messi, despite only joining the Spanish giants this summer.

He said: “Kun Agüero went to Barcelona, and now Messi is leaving. They just happen to be little breadsticks, partners.

“Those are the things that football has. The same thing happened to me. I go to Everton, practically because Ancelotti was there and look, now Carlo is gone.”

“I don’t know what is going to happen. In football and in life, we don’t know anything. Let’s see what happens.”

Meanwhile, the Toffees’ fellow South American star Richarlison could also be set to miss out on their clash with Leeds at Elland Road.

The young Brazilian has been representing his country at the Olympic games and played in Saturday's final against Spain.

Finally, the Toffees had to make do without England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin during their pre-season friendly against Manchester United on Saturday, with the Echo reporting that he is suffering from a toe injury, the extent of which is currently not known.
