Everton could make £25m profit on Anthony Gordon as part of Todd Boehly's Chelsea transfer plan

Anthony Gordon to Chelsea has certainly been a transfer link that came left-field, with no one really expecting it, but the latest indications are that Todd Boehly is serious about signing the Everton forward this summer as part of the squad rebuild.

The west Londoners have started the new Premier League season with a reasonable four points collected from their first two games against Everton and Tottenham. During Sunday's controversial 2-2 draw against the Lilywhites, the news came through that Chelsea had seen a first £40million bid rejected for the 21-year-old.

football.london now understands that alongside Barcelona's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Blues want to sign at least one more new attacker to compensate for the potential losses of both Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who appear keen to find new clubs before the September 1 deadline.

Sky Sports were the first to report on the news and with Jamie Carragher's prediction correct in relation to a reasonable fee that could be settled on between the two clubs, the blue half of Merseyside are reportedly demanding £10m more to be added on to the first offer before they are likely to accept.

There is even some talk of players like Michy Bathshuayi, Ross Barkley or Billy Gilmour being included in the operation to make it a more enticing prospect for Frank Lampard, who previously said the player in question would not be sold this summer.

The Times' report indicated that the first offer was around the £30m mark plus significant add-ons, which would take the total fee eventually to around the £40m mark. The hope of adding players into the operation should edge Boehly closer to his sixth deal for the men's side in his first summer in charge as interim sporting director.

However, whichever way you are to look at it, Everton are set to be the real winners here. They are currently projected to sell their homegrown talent at £25-32m over his current market value. Transfermarkt indicates that the winger is only worth £18m, whilst the CIES Football Observatory has priced the Liverpool-born player at up to £25m.

Regardless of what many think, Boehly is prepared to back Thomas Tuchel all the way on this one and if he believes Gordon is the right fit for his project and what he wants to be build going forward, the financial elements to this deal really shouldn't matter too much.
