Everton could help Kai Havertz secure his dream Chelsea shirt number

Kai Havertz has told Chelsea his dream shirt number ahead of his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea wrapped up the signing of the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder on a club-record deal worth £72million - potentially rising to £90million - last week after a summer-long pursuit.

And as the Germany international prepares to make his Chelsea debut on Monday, when the Blues take on Brighton away from home in their season-opener, he has declared the shirt number he wants to wear during his time in London.

According to Simon Johnson of The Athletic, Havertz has told Chelsea he wants to wear the number 29, the same one he wore at Leverkusen.

The problem is, that number is already taken by young centre-back Fikayo Tomori, though, the youngster is reportedly happy to pass it on.

"Been told Kai Havertz asked to take Tomori's No 29 shirt number on joining #CFC," Johnson said on Twitter.

"It's his favourite number having worn it at Bayer Leverkusen.

"Tomori was happy to oblige (and that was before talks over loan to #EFC stepped up)."

Recent reports have suggested Tomori could be close to joining Everton on a season-long loan.

The Express report Chelsea offered the defender to Everton in a bid to get the 22-year-old more Premier League experience following the arrival of Thiago SIlva in centre-back position.
