Everton confirmed team news vs Southampton as James Rodriguez starts

James Rodriguez has been passed fit to face Southampton today as Alex Iwobi and Gylfi Sigurdsson make their first Premier League starts of the season.

And, as Carlo Ancelotti said, Ben Godfrey makes his full Everton debut at right-back in place of the injured Seamus Coleman.

In all, Ancelotti has made three changes from the starting XI that faced Liverpool last weekend with Coleman’s injury giving Godfrey this chance, Richarlison’s suspension making room for Iwobi and Sigurdsson coming in for Andre Gomes, who is on the bench.

Sigurdsson will captain the team today.

But the big news is that Rodriguez, who was ruled out by Ancelotti on Thursday only to be then rated as hopeful for the game 24 hours later, is fit to start.

Jordan Pickford remains in goal, Godfrey, Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne make up the defence.

Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Sigurdsson will form a three-man midfield with Rodriguez, top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iwobi the front three.

Everton (4-3-3): Pickford; Godfrey, Keane, Mina, Digne; Allan, Doucoure, Sigurdsson; Iwobi, Calvert-Lewin, Rodriguez.

Subs: Olsen, Gomes, Delph, Nkounkou, Davies, Bernard, Gordon
