Everton winger Bernard is set to miss next weekend's game against Tottenham after the Toffees confirmed that he has sustained a medial knee ligament injury.
The Brazilian was substituted after 30 minutes of the 3-2 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday (Saturday), having picked up a problem at the Amex Stadium.
Bernard was seen leaving the stadium on crutches, and the Toffees have this evening (Sunday) confirmed that he has suffered a grade two tear of his right MCL, meaning he is set to miss the game against Spurs at Goodison Park next weekend.
As such, Everton say that he will need further assessment to determine the quickest form of recovery for the player.
In a statement, Everton said: "Everton Football Club can confirm Bernard suffered an injury to his right knee during our game against Brighton on Saturday.
"Scans have subsequently revealed the Brazilian has sustained a grade 2 medial ligament injury. Everton medical staff will speak with the club's knee consultant in the coming days to ensure the fastest possible return to play."
The 27-year-old has been a key man for Marco Silva's side this season, making nine appearances for the Toffees.
He recently scored in the 2-0 win against West Ham United; his fourth goal in all competitions since joining Everton from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2018.
