Everton confirm injury blow ahead of Man City fixture

Manchester City won't have to contend with Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the Everton striker was ruled out of the Premier League clash between the two sides on Wednesday night.

With a seven-point lead on second-placed Manchester United, Pep Guardiola's table-toppers head into their midweek fixture on the back of 11 straight Premier League wins.

City have yet to play Everton in the Premier League this season, but they do have an FA Cup quarter-final date with the same opponents, sandwiched between tomorrow night's clash and their meeting on the final day of the season.

Calvert-Lewin will be missing for the first of those games, though, after Carlo Ancelotti revealed that his England striker is still not quite ready to return from injury.

He missed the surprise 2-0 defeat at home to Fulham on Sunday afternoon with a hamstring issue, having scored 13 goals in the Premier League during the 2020/2021 campaign so far.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti said: "(Calvert-Lewin will return in) A matter of days, we hope he'll be available on Saturday."

Ancelotti continued: "Calvert-Lewin is really important because he gives us the opportunity to play different ways.

"Without him, we lose some opportunities to play. We played really well without him and Richarlison against Wolves so I'm not too worried about the players that won't play."

In other injury news for Everton, they are likely to be able to call upon James Rodriguez after a knock, while Allan is also expected to come back into contention.

England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (ribs) has trained with the group, too, having missed the club's last four fixtures in all competitions, with Robin Olsen deputising for him.
