Everton confirm details of opening two pre-season friendlies of the summer

Everton have confirmed their opening two friendly games of a shortened pre-season schedule.

The Blues will face Blackpool on Saturday, August 22 at 3pm before facing Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday, September 1 at 6pm.

Both games are away from home and to be played behind-closed-doors. Everton say a third friendly game will be announced "in due course" as Carlo Ancelotti prepares his squad for the new Premier League season, which begins on September 12.

Some of Everton's players returned to Finch Farm this morning to undergo testing ahead of Sunday's first training session of the summer.

Earlier in the week, the Blues said some players had been offered the chance of an extended break, including Richarlison, and so would not be back at the club's Halewood training base until the end of the month.

The Premier League, meanwhile, confirmed yesterday that fixtures for the new campaign would be revealed, no later than Friday, August 21.

Blackpool finished 13th in League One last season and managed by former Liverpool under-23s boss Neil Critchley, they are working on a deal to take Everton midfielder Beni Baningime on loan for the season.

Championship side Blackburn, meanwhile, finished 11th last season and are managed by Tony Mowbray.
