Everton confirm deadline day arrival of Donny van de Beek on loan from Man United

Everton have confirmed the signing of Donny van de Beek on loan until the end of the season from Manchester United.

A January move for the Dutchman has looked inevitable, with the midfielder, who signed for United for £35million in 2020, unable to make any sort of impact at Old Trafford.

Crystal Palace were keen on Van de Beek and tried to bring him to Selhurst Park on loan, but the 24-year-old has opted to join Everton instead.

The Toffees will cover Van de Beek’s salary for the rest of the season, but there is no option to turn the move into a permanent one in the summer.

“Now I can say I am an Everton player, I am really happy and can’t wait to help the team,” Van de Beek told evertontv.

“I think it is a great club… there are really good players here and I came because I want to help them go up the table.

“I hope to bring my football qualities, my passing, and, of course, scoring goals. It is a big part of my game to score and give assists and I will try to do that again. And it is not only offensive, you have to defend as a midfielder and I can do that as well.

It’s been a busy deadline day for Everton, who confirmed the appointment of Frank Lampard as their new manager, following the sacking of Rafa Benitez earlier in January.

The Toffees are also in advanced talks with Tottenham over a surprise move to sign Dele Alli on a permanent transfer before Monday night’s deadline.
