Everton confirm Andros Townsend signing from Crystal Palace as Rafa Benitez first transfer

Everton have confirmed the signing of Andros Townsend on a free transfer after his contract expired at Crystal Palace.

The winger has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal at Goodison Park, bringing an end to his five-season stint with the Eagles in the Premier League.

The 30-year-old becomes Rafa Benitez's first signing of the summer transfer window, with the arrival of Asmir Begovic from Championship side Bournemouth potentially shortly to follow.

Townsend joined Crystal Palace in 2016 after a brief stint with Newcastle United following his permanent exit from Tottenham Hotspur.

In that spell in the North East, the winger worked with Benitez after the Spaniard replaced Steve McClaren - but the former England international's time with the Magpies was cut short after their relegation to the Championship.

In five seasons at Selhurst Park, Townsend played 185 times in all competitions and contributed 16 goals.

The winger scored once and laid on five assist in the Premier League across 2021/22 and will add experience to a position Everton have prioritised recruitment in this summer.

Demarai Gray and Dwight McNeil both interest the Blues while Bernard could still be edging closer to the Goodison exit door as a move to the Middle East has been touted.
