Everton coach Carlo Ancelotti responds to Mason Holgate Man City transfer speculation

Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed the idea of selling Everton defender Mason Holgate amid transfer speculation linking him with a summer move to Manchester City .

The MEN understand centre-back is an area of priority for the Blues when the transfer window reopens in a few months' time following various injuries to Aymeric Laporte and question marks over John Stones' long-term future at the club.

Speculation has already started as to who Pep Guardiola could look to bring to the Etihad Stadium with Holgate the latest name to be linked with a move to Manchester.

The 23-year-old has been a regular for the Toffees, making 20 appearances in the Premier League this season, and Football Insider claimed the defender has emerged as City's number one target for the summer window.

Ancelotti was questioned on the rumours during his press conference prior to this weekend's fixture against Manchester United and ruled out an exit for Holgate.

"I think it's a rumour, but if it's not a rumour I can say Mason Holgate is an important part of the future of Everton," he said.

"There is no possibility he can go to another club.

"Zero possibility, like my friend [Jose] Mourinho says! Zero."
