Everton chief Marcel Brands admits doubt over quick Premier League coronavirus return

Everton director of football Marcel Brands has admitted he doesn't think there is a big chance of Premier League football returning in time for his side's match against Leicester City.

On Friday it was confirmed that that the top division had been suspended until at least April 3 after an emergency call between representatives from all 20 clubs.

The news followed confirmation that an Everton player had shown symptoms consistent with coronavirus and was self-isolating, with other teammates and staff told to stay away from club workplaces until further notice.

brands gave an update on the player in question to say there was fortunately no infection, but cast doubt over whether football will resume before Everton are due to play Leicester at Goodison Park on April 6.

Brands is quoted by FC Update [via SportWitness ] as saying: "Whether the league will be finished will affect TV funding. It will depend on what's going to happen to the Europe and Champions League

"But I wonder if we can play football on April 6th. I don’t think that chance is that big.

"[Last] Friday morning someone had a fever among us, but fortunately it turns out that there was no infection. But we took no risk and decided to close the complex ourselves."
