Everton boss opens up on Wilfried Zaha transfer saga and Alex Iwobi deal ahead of Palace clash

Marco Silva insists that he is happy with Everton's transfer business, despite missing out on signing Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace.

The Toffees were heavily linked with a move to sign the Palace ace during the summer transfer window, with Everton having a bid turned down by Palace.

Zaha made it clear that he wanted to leave the Eagles, with the Ivory Coast international submitting a transfer request on Wednesday - the day before the transfer deadline - amid interest from Arsenal and Everton.

But a move failed to materialise and Zaha stayed put, with Everton moving to sign Alex Iwobi from Arsenal late on, after the 5pm deadline, having submitted a deal sheet to the Premier League.

And Silva has spoken about the transfer saga on the eve of Everton facing Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park tomorrow (Saturday).

"Like I said in my statement when we signed Alex [Iwobi], we have our targets," Silva said, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against the Eagles.

"When you are planning a squad you plan with some names, and I did my job with the names to my football structure. We cannot just have one name.

"The market was difficult and when we lost [Ademola] Lookman we looked for a winger, not two wingers.

"We have tried to do the deals and we've achieved a good player.

"It was not just our club that had an interest in [Wilfried] Zaha, not just us."

And Silva insists he is pleased to have Iwobi at the club, after the 23-year-old Nigerian international signed a five-year contract on Merseyside.

The manager added: "It's not just him that was late, it was a busy week!

"Since we lost Lookman in that position we looked for one winger since that moment, and it was in the last moment of the window.

"The position we are looking for him is clear - coming from the left, he can play behind the striker really well also. If you need to play him on the right he can do also."
