Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti gives verdict on Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Carlo Ancelotti gave a glowing appraisal of the job Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing at Manchester United after their respective sides played out a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Ancelotti's Everton side shared the points with United and the Italian, a managerial doyen after 25 years and more than 1,100 games, is impressed with the work his counterpart is doing at Old Trafford.

Everton took an early lead when David De Gea's clearance flew in off Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but United responded to level with Bruno Fernandes and were the better side in the first half.

United's eight game unbeaten run is their longest since the 11-game streak at the start of Solskjaer's reign between December 2018 and February 2019 and Ancelotti, who has won three Champions Leagues and is considered a managerial great, likes what he sees.

"I think United played well, they played good football, short passes, dangerous in counter-attacking," he said.

"It is a team that has an idea and that is a manager’s job. I think he is doing really well for what I see today and the fact we competed with them is important for us. It gives us more confidence for the next game."

The Toffees finished the game the stronger of the two sides and Ancelotti was sent-off for complaining at the decision to disallow Calvert-Lewin's deflected strike in injury time.

The ball hit Harry Maguire to wrong foot David De Gea, but Gylfi Sigurdsson was lying in an offside position inside the six-yard box and while he didn't touch the ball, VAR ruled he was interfering with De Gea.

"I ask for an explanation after the game. There was a misunderstanding on the pitch [and] he sent me off. After that I spoke with him calmly in the dressing room. I want to keep the conversation private and he will make a report for the referee," said Ancelotti.

"I didn’t disrespect him but I can understand the end of the game was really exciting. It can happen but we will see if I am banned

"Honestly, it was a difficult decision. I think they check the position of Gylfi, it was offside but in our opinion it didn’t affect the vision of the goalkeeper. In their opinion it affect the vision."
