Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti delivers blunt verdict on Yerry Mina's latest display

Carlo Ancelotti has told Yerry Mina he delivered "an average" performance in the win over West Bromwich Albion - having done "really well" in the season's opening game.

Mina was excellent against Tottenham Hotpsur last weekend but was shaky in the first-half against the Baggies at Goodison yesterday.

Ancelotti says Mina needed to close down the West Brom frontline better after his decision to back off Grady Diangana for the visitor's opening goal was questioned.

“Yerry had an average game, I think he could be more aggressive and do more with the ball," Ancelotti said.

"The only aspect we have to look at is him being more aggressive when he can press the opening.

"But he did really well against Tottenham."

Mina was rested for the midweek Carabao Cup tie with Salford City but an injury to Jarrad Branthwaite - coupled with Mason Holgate's absence - means the Colombian could partner Michael Keane in Wednesday night's third round tie at Fleetwood Town.

Everton remained determined to add defensive cover to the squad before the transfer window closes on October 5.

Branthwaite is expected to be out for around a month, with the timescale on Holgate return less defined, but Everton are braced for him to, at least, miss all remaining games this month and those fixtures in October too.

Lewis Gibson is set to join Championship leaders Reading on loan tomorrow.
