Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti addresses January transfer window striker plans

Carlo Ancelotti was coy when asked about his plans to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

The new Everton manager is hoping to add “one or two” players to the squad next month but insists detailed talks with director of football Marcel Brands will not happen until after the FA Cup tie with Liverpool.

Ancelotti kick-started his Blues reign with a 1-0 win over Burnley on Boxing Day and takes his squad to Newcastle today ahead of Saturday's game at St James' Park.

A trip to the Etihad Stadium follows on New Year's Day before the third round clash at Anfield four days' later.

Ancelotti says only then will he and Brands sit down for discussions over the transfer window and when asked if he will ask the club to sign a striker next month, the Italian said: “No, we didn't talk about this but, for sure, I am not asking for a striker because upfront we are really good.

“Anyway, we didn't talk about this because I think until January 5 we have to be focused on these games, we have four games. After that we can talk if we need something or not.”

Everton are still intent on selling a number of fringe players and Cenk Tosun is understood to be available next month.

The Turkey international, keen to ensure of his place in the Euro 2020 squad, is attracting interest form Germany and it is understood Everton would ask for around £20m for the 28-year-old.

Oumar Niasse, entering the final six months of his contract, is also expected to leave in January and if both players are moved on then it could free up room in the budget to allow Ancelotti to bring in a striker.
