Everton attacker James Rodriguez makes retirement claim

James Rodriguez admits he's looking to help Everton's younger players before he calls time on his career.

The former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich attacker made the switch to Goodison Park last summer, joining up with former manager Carlo Ancelotti.

When fit, Rodriguez has impressed for the Toffees this season, scoring six goals in 25 appearances.

Rodriguez turns 30 in July and has a contract at Everton that runs until next summer, with the option to extend for a further year.

But asked about his retirement plans, he admitted he won't "play too old" before explaining his hope of passing on his experiences to younger players before he hangs up his boots.

“I haven’t given it much thought,” he told the Colombian FA, via Sports Witness.

“I can’t tell you where I would like to retire. I don’t think it will be long because I wouldn’t want to play too old. For now, I want to enjoy it as much as possible.

“I want to learn, to help the young players. This whole crop of players who are almost 30 years old and upwards have less and less time to go.”
