Everton attacker explains why he left Blues after 12 years as permanent transfer completed

Antony Evans has explained why he left Everton after 12 years at the club on Wednesday.

The youngster completed a switch to SC Paderborn this week on a permanent basis as he had just six months left to run on his contract on Merseyside.

The 21-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Bundesliga side and is raring to get his life in Germany underway.

The forward took to social media to thank Everton for their support before explaining why he felt the time was right to leave Finch Farm.

Evans told Paderborn TV: "I've been there for a very long time, it's all I've ever known really.

"I had two loan spells away from Everton and they definitely helped me to develop. Now I wanted a new challenge, to come to Paderborn and develop even more."

The talented attacker leaves the Blues having not made an appearance for the club's first team, but proving himself a crucial member of David Unsworth's U23s over the years.

Evans bagged nine goals in 18 appearances this term before making the move to Paderborn, becoming the latest Everton talent to move to the Bundesliga following in Jonjoe Kenny's footsteps.

And the 21-year-old has set out his immediate aims at his new club, which he believes will fit perfectly with his style as a footballer.

"At Everton we were maybe a little bit defensive, we tried to play offensive as well but I feel over here at Paderborn the coach especially and the way the team play, they definitely try to press and play more forward football.

"That's my game really - to create goals, chances and score as many as I can. Hopefully I can bring that here for Paderborn.

"[My aim is] to try and get as many games as possible in the Bundesliga, to get into the team, get to know everybody, learn German definitely and hopefully try and push further up in the league."
