Everton assistant manager Duncan Ferguson disagrees with Premier League winter break

Everton assistant manager Duncan Ferguson has hit back at the newly-introduced Premier League winter break.

The next fortnight marks the first-ever winter rest for teams with the Toffees having next week off after facing Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.

Ferguson, however, believes the fans are missing out as a consequence of the decision.

"I don't like it because the fans can't go away," Ferguson said to Football Daily.

"For me, I enjoy the football and have a great lifestyle but the fans can't go on holiday.

"The fans are missing out - so I don't agree with it."

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Everton will not be allowed an overseas break during the period of inactivity.

“The plan for the winter break is to give some rest to the players, maybe four or five days, then start to train here.

“I want to stay here in Finch Farm because we have a fantastic training ground. We don't need to move around the world to travel, it's better to stay here.”
