'Everton are still in the mix for Europe despite galling Newcastle set-back'

It's a tale of two halves in this latest edition of the Royal Blue podcast.

The first-half focuses on how well Everton had played for almost all of Tuesday night's game with Newcastle United, establishing a two goal lead after a commanding performance.

The second-half moves onto the events of the 94th and 95th minutes at Goodison where the Blues saw their lead evaporate in stunning circumstances.

Host Phil Kirkbride is joined by Adam Jones and Gavin Buckland to dissect the Blues' performance - for better and for worse - a first goal for Moise Kean, another for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Bernard and why Carlo Ancelotti's men are firmly in the race for Europe despite the midweek draw.

On being in the mix for Europa League qualification, despite the disappointing draw, Jones said: "A win would've been a big turning point but, similarly, it's not a massive turning point that we didn't.

"It's still only one league loss under Ancelotti......[Europe] is still a real possibility, we are still in the fight and if we can continue the points haul we've had under Duncan and now Ancelotti, then there is no reason why we can't."

Buckland added: "They reckon 56 points might get you fifth this season.  We are still in the mix [for Europe].  It's all still to play for.  It's still on.

Jones would say the performance, up until the point where Everton conceded two goals deep into time added on, was on a par with the victory over West Ham earlier in the season.

And the panel were united in their praise for Kean - "as good as centre-forward display as I've seen at Goodison for a long time" says Buckland - but also Bernard."Bernard is more suited to a 4-4-2 than 4-2-3-1," Buckland said.
