Everton and Liverpool warned that Premier League season could be 'cancelled'

League Managers Association chief executive Richard Bevan has warned that the 2019/20 Premier League season could be cancelled if clubs do not agree to play in neutral venues.

Everton and Liverpool are still awaiting the next moves from the governing body under 'Project Restart'.

Negotiations are ongoing about how the campaign will be completed, with a June 12th restart date still believed to be the preferred option.

In a proposal delivered to all 20 Premier League clubs last Friday, the league proposed that the season would be finished in eight to 10 neutral stadiums.

With 92 games of the season still to be played, time is of the essence to complete the campaign.

Talks are expected to ramp up next week, with Boris Johnson set to address the nation on Sunday over lockdown measures to combat COVID-19.

However, with teams fighting relegation opposing the current suggestions of neutral stadiums, Bevan has warned that the season may not finish if agreement proves too difficult.

Asked if a vote against neutral venues would mean cancellation of the campaign, Bevan told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "Yes, I think that probably is correct."

He added: "The Government, if they haven't already, will be making it clear that home matches with densely populated stadia, really puts into question whether social distancing rules can be adhered to."
