Everton and Liverpool to meet Premier League clubs over postponing fixtures

Everton and Liverpool will meet with other Premier League clubs over the possibility of postponing festive fixtures, it has been claimed.

Both Merseyside clubs have been impacted by the recent rise in Covid-19 cases, as have the majority of clubs across the top flight.

The Blues had their Premier League clash against Leicester City postponed due to a surge in cases among the Foxes squad.

Liverpool were without Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Curtis Jones for the midweek win over Newcastle after recording positive tests, plus Thiago Alcantara missed Sunday’s draw with Tottenham with a suspected positive result.

According to The Athletic , all Premier League clubs will meet on Monday to discuss the possibility of temporarily halting fixtures over the festive period.

The report states that the round of fixtures involved are on December 28, 29 and 30, which would mean Boxing Day’s games are unaffected.

The meeting will take place at 1pm on Monday afternoon, with all 20 Premier League clubs set to be present

This weekend saw six Premier League fixtures postponed due to Covid-19 cases being reported across the top flight.

Manchester United vs Brighton, Aston Villa vs Burnley, Southampton vs Brentford, Watford vs Crystal Palace, West Ham vs Norwich City and Everton vs Leicester City were the matches called off.
