Everton and Liverpool learn who will referee upcoming Merseyside derby

Mike Dean has been chosen as the referee for the 236th Merseyside derby as Everton prepare to host Liverpool on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's side will travel to an empty Goodison Park to restart their hopes of confirming the Premier League title - while Carlo Ancelotti's players will be hopeful of a first win over their bitter rivals since 2010.

Dean will officiate the game as he did for the side's last league meeting back in December, with Liverpool emerging 5-2 winners at Anfield in what proved to be Marco Silva's last game in charge of Everton.

That match has the only game all season the referee has taken charge of for either side.

He will be assisted by Simon Bennett and Darren Cann, with Anthony Taylor chosen as the fourth official.

Chris Kavanagh will be the VAR for the game, after he showed Ancelotti a red card for his on-field protests following a late disallowed goal in Everton's 1-1 draw with Manchester United in March - their last time out at Goodison Park.
