Everton and Liverpool fans could return for Merseyside Derby with Premier League talks ongoing

Some Everton and Liverpool supporters may be able to return to Goodison Park to watch the Merseyside Derby in October.

The Premier League and the Government remain locked in talks regarding the safe return to stadiums with the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) planning to have around 30 percent of each arena filled to begin with and eventually ease in more spectators.

But Premier League clubs reportedly do not think this will work as they seek to grant access to as many season-ticket holders as possible.

So, will supporters be able to attend games ahead of the upcoming 2020/21 season? Here’s what we know so far.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has previously outlined the Government plans to allow fans back into stadiums by October.

By October 1, the Premier League would have already started, with three match weeks scheduled to have been played by this time.

Everton are set to host Brighton on October 3, before the derby at Goodison on the weekend of October 17.

Liverpool travel to Aston Villa in early October before the trip across Stanley Park.

Yet only 30 percent of fans are set to be allowed into Premier League venues in October under social distancing guidelines.

A draft document from the SGSA, as per the Times , states: “It is emphasised that capacity assessments arrived at after optimising seat allocations will be permitted only if it can be shown that the entry, exit and emergency exit capacities and, where applicable, the concourse capacity, can support such numbers when social distancing is in place.”

Clubs will have to carry out regular risk assessments of their stadiums with supporters who have tickets for the game also obliged to carry out a personal risk assessment.
