Everton and Liverpool both handed long away trips in Carabao Cup third round draw

Liverpool and Everton were both handed long away journeys in the Carabao Cup third round draw.

The Reds will travel to Norwich, only a few weeks after winning 3-0 on the opening weekend at Carrow Road.

Rafa Benitez’s side, meanwhile, were given a trip to West London to face Queen’s Park Rangers after their hard-fought 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.

Premier League opposition will be no stranger to Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have been drawn against top flight teams on 18 occasions out of a possible 27 during the German’s time in charge.

The League Cup remains the only domestic trophy that the Toffees are yet to win, having reached the final twice in their history, but the Blues have won their last four meetings with the Championship side, including a 4-0 FA Cup win in 2014.

Liverpool last lifted the trophy in 2012 during Kenny Dalglish’s second spell in charge, but have failed to go beyond the quarter-final stage of either domestic cup competition since 2017.

Both sides will be looking to improve on their recent history in the competition, with Everton already utilising their squad to get back to winning ways in the previous round.

All ties are due to be played on 21-22 September.
